What is the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor charge?

A felony is handled at the superior court entitling the defendant the right to an indictment by a grand jury and a jury trial. A misdemeanor is handled at the Municipal Court with no right to an indictment by a Grand Jury and no jury trial.

What is the difference between a dismissal and an expungement?

A dismissal means the actual charges have been dismissed. An expungement happens later and allows a defendant to remove charges on his or her criminal record.

Will my case go to trial?

Most cases don't go to trial. Rather, they are disposed of by way of a plea agreement. Some cases, however, are not resolved by agreement and those do go to trial.

What crimes are considered domestic violence?

Domestic violence usually involves violence or the threat of violence upon a victim who is in a relationship with the defendant.
